July 24, 2006

I am back after spending 3 weeks travelling
with great friends. Too short I feel. The days
seemed to just breeze by and before I knew
it, I was on a plane heading for home.

The worst part about this is getting used to
this horrid hot and humid weather and
knowing your life's gonna fall back in it's
usual routine. But it's not so bad, we'll
always have memories and hopefully there'll
be more trips to come in the future. =)

This trip on the whole was a very fulfilling
and enriching experience, one that I would
not soon forget. I got to know some great
people, formed greater friendships and
learned a couple of things along the way.

One of the first things I learnt is that
backpacking is not so bad and the those
hostels were pretty darn nice. They were
clean with good facilities and when you're
with a big group of people, very very fun.
Some of our cooking experiences were
pretty funny, especially the lasagne episode
where we practically took over all the 5
microwaves in the kitchen and they were
"dinging" all over the place.

Another thing I learnt is the importance
of having accomodating and competent
friends with you. Seriously. That said I must
thank Kelvin for being so great. Thanks for
putting up with a lot of our crap, especially
the pranks: Shaving cream and the Hollow
salty bread roll. xD Thanks for taking care
of us, helping with the luggage, cooking,
washing up and eating our leftovers and

eating Deb's chilli-laden leftovers too. I hope
I wasn't too much trouble. hehe.
I'd also like to thank Sashi and Amy for
sharing their Campbell soup. =)

The morning we were to leave Hobart, it
registered a cool 3 degrees. There was a
thermometer/clock on the building next to
our hostel and we could see it everytime we
looked out of our room window. It was 7 in
the morning and after I took a shower, Deb
and I packed the last of our things and, with
Kelvin's help, proceeded to take everything
downstairs. Our room was on the 3rd storey
and they had no lifts (That reminded me of
Vietnam immediately, only this place wasn't
dodgy.). We had a simple breakfast, mostly
just finishing up whatever food we had left,
some foods had travelled all the way with us
from Sydney (Our beloved 48 slices of
cheese). Kelvin and I then had to rush to
catch our shuttle bus to the airport, Deb's
flight was later, we almost missed it. All that
rushing made the goodbyes easier but you
could tell none of us wanted to leave just yet.
I hope, Deb, that I'll see you this December.
*HINT HINT*

The rest of the day was pretty uneventful,
we had at 3hr wait for our connecting flight
back to Singapore at the Sydney airport.
We spent most of it sleeping, the sky was
pretty overcast and it rained for a bit.
We started to board the plane at about
3.20pm and we were treated to a double
rainbow. As the second one faded the first
grew in brillance. I had never seen a
rainbow with such intense colors before, you
could actually see it stemming from the
tarmac. A final memory to seal this trip.
I'd say it was a perfect one.

Pictures to come, I promise.

To update on my previous post, we didn't
wake up to catch the sunrise. We only woke
up at about 12pm, Derek and Huimin were
already here, they arrived at about 7am, they
went to have breakfast and do a bit of
shopping at Market City while waiting for us to
wake up. Oops.
