The gospel of Judas.
An ancient codex arising from much controversy
in the wake of the best selling novel that is The
Da Vinci Code. [The plot of the novel involves a
conspiracy by the Catholic Church to cover up
the "true" story of Jesus. The Vatican knows it is
living a lie but does so to keep itself in power.
The novel has helped generate popular interest in
speculation concerning the Holy Grail legend and
the role of Mary Magdalene in the history of

Forgotten for many years, the gospel of Judas has
since resurfaced and received with as much furore
with the help of the National Geographic show of
the same name. Based on the show, this gospel
portrays Judas in a new light. He wasn't the traitor
he was made out to be and only he knew the true
plans of Jesus.
There is no doubt the codex is real but can the same
be said for its contents? The codex is widely thought
to be written by the gnostics, who were philosophical
in their beliefs, and teachings of Christianity. The
National Geographic has, in all aspects done their
research but even an organisation such as them is
fallible and has to remain objective to their general
viewing audience.
Therefore the rest is left for us to decide.
Presented with these codices, namely the gospel of
Judas, Mary, Thomas and Philip, the show seems to
bear evidence that the early church leaders sought to
dictate how Christianity was to be taught. By omitting
codices they so deemed as heresy, those which now
seek to shake the very foundations of the Christian
faith, have they moulded Christianity as we know it
today?
Faced with these new revelations, many have turned
away and others forced to question their faith, yet
there are those that hold strong against the rising tide
of doubt.
Hence, as at the end of the show,
the question must be asked.
